When development on an isolated location occurs, it will inevitably impact the local community and its environment. This book addresses tourism and the impending consequence of marginalisation on a local community in Redang Island who have long yearned for development. Rooted in academic research and field work on the Redang Island community,this book explorers the impact of development contributed by foreign developers and investors who deem the island a "gold mine". This study found that tourism development has brought nothing but exploitations, which has resulted in an imbalance of wealth distribution. Despite the various potential opportunities that come with development, nevertheless, without the right expertise and with scarce resources, the local community become helpless in the midst of a major transformation, deriving little benefit from development in its truest sense.
