The University Management Committee Meeting (JKPU) No. 16/2019, held on May 13, 2019, approved the establishment of the Centralized Lab Management Center (CLMC) at UniSZA. The establishment of this center aims to strengthen laboratory management to support teaching, learning, research, and scientific analysis services at the university. CLMC operates under the administration of the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) (TNCPI) and plays a crucial role in coordinating laboratory-related issues, including development, regulatory compliance, accreditation, efficiency enhancement, and strategic collaboration.

With this establishment, the management of laboratories, instrumentation, chemicals, and laboratory staff at UniSZA will be centralized under one roof, replacing the current model where laboratories are managed separately by Responsibility Centers (PTj) such as the Faculty of Bioresources and Food Industry (FBIM), Faculty of Health Sciences (FSK), Faculty of Medicine (FP), Faculty of Pharmacy (FF), and the Foundation Center for Science and Medicine (PUSPA).

The concept draws inspiration from the successes of other universities in Malaysia, such as Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), and Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), which have demonstrated that centralized laboratory management offers numerous benefits. These include more efficient and integrated management, improved coordination of scientific information, more prudent financial management, enhanced staff competency through targeted training, and opportunities for university revenue generation through laboratory services.

Aligned with this innovative approach, CLMC at UniSZA is designed with its unique framework, incorporating experiences and improvements from the centralized laboratory models of other universities. This initiative is expected to bring positive transformation to laboratory management at UniSZA, thereby strengthening the university’s capacity to support academic and research excellence.
